Val D’Isere Opening Weekend
Opening weekend, also known as First Tracks Weekend, features a major special event to kick off the the 2016-2017 ski season at Val D’Isere. The opening of the newly built Solaise Renaissance, a beautiful new gondola and cableway. The new 16 million Euro redevelopment project marks it’s two year completion this weekend. On November 26, the new cableway, that climbs from the center of the resort will open for business. Part of a multi-phase redevelopment plan, it replaces the original Solaise Express chairlift and allows passengers to reach the far end of the ski area in less than seven minutes.
During the celebration weekend, the Ski Force Winter Tour occurs with instructors showing skiers the many different areas.
Alpine Ski World Cup
The winter months also see the 61st Criterium De La Première Neige. Alpine Skiing World Cup occurring December 9 to 11 and December 16 to 18 (men compete the first weekend and women the second). A special concert along with a slate of special activities will occur alongside the skiing competitions.
Magic of Christmas
The Magic of Christmas event (December 19-25) features everything from a torch-lit descent, concerts and snow sculptures to the arrival of Father Christmas in the village on December 24.
The Barone Speed Tour: Barone Cup occurs on the weekend of January 7-8. Named after the famed Eric “Red Baron” Barone, who holds the world speed record for biking at 138.7 mph, the downhill mountain biking race will determine who will succeed Eric as the king of the event starting in 2018 when Eric will pass the reigns.
Europe Cup FIS Race
A giant slalom race is the focus of the Europe Cup FIS Races January 19-21 occurring on the Joseray piste bringing together Europe’s best slalom competitors
The 5th Winter Golf competition occurs March 22-26, and features 40 pro-am teams.
From April 4-7 La Scara offers a chance for people aged 14-16 to compete in for the Alpine Skiing World Cup to provide a glimpse to the future of Alpine World Cup Skiing
Spring Skiing Festival
The Spring Skiing Festival from April 8 to May 1 marks a highly popular time in Val D’Isere. As the temperatures begin to warm, ideal ski conditions occur each morning. During the spring festival, visitors can experience a film festival, a yoga festival and a ski equipment fair that showcases the latest equipment from top ski equipment manufacturers.
Avaline Trax Competition
The Avaline Trax Competitor’s Race events are going to be January 10, 17, 24, 31 and March 7 and 14. During this race, competitors are tested as they head down the 500m vertical drop on Piste M on Solaise. Free entry with vin chaud awaiting racers at the end. Dynastar and Millet will set up the course.
High Trail Vanoise Running Competition
Occurring during the weekend of July 7th to the 9th, trail runners can experience 5 separate course snaking through the Tarentaise and Maurienne valleys.
La Foire Avaline
The La Foire Avaline is slated for August 5 and 6, and it is a summer highlight that emphasizes the local produce and features a great array of arts and crafts as well as entertainment. The festival’s spotlight is on the Savoy area as well as the bordering Italian region of Piedmont.
