The story of the private island of Mustique is enchanting and appealing to those who dream of a private tropical holiday. A place where nature has been lovingly preserved, where building has been limited to properties of limited height (nothing taller than the trees) and elegant design, it is a rare find. The architects initially hired to design the various properties used very distinctive styles, natural or native materials, and impressively beautiful décor. Arne Hasselqvist was one of the preferred names in Mustique and the Villa The Beach House was one of his final projects.
Using native and natural materials such as stone and bamboo, the property has the distinct feeling of a tree house, and it sits just above Gelliceaux Bay, offering private beach access on an already private island. Surrounded by mature plantings, various paths and steps that lead to the beach, and two distinct levels of living spaces, it is a wonderful retreat for discerning travelers.
The upper level is where the shared living and reception room is found, surrounded by verandahs and a remarkable sunset terrace. You enter the funicular from here as well, which takes you to the beach. There is a dining gazebo on this level along with the garage and laundry. Two of the bedrooms are here as well, and each is a luxurious suite of rooms that include a private verandah and en-suite bath. One offers an office too.
The lower level (at the beach) offers one enormous bedroom suite with verandah, patio and plunge pool. Another is just below the upper bedroom and also offers a verandah looking out to the sea. There is a larger building where the media room, smaller bedroom, and fitness room are found along with yet another plunge pool. Taking the steps down to the beach you find the beach dining and bar gazebo, patio, the sea deck and the jetty.
Clearly, the Villa The Beach House is a rare find and an idyll private property for a group in search of total privacy in complete luxury.
