English is the official language in Antiqua and Barbuda although many locals speak Antiguan Creole.
Spanish is spoken by around 10,000 inhabitants. The Barbudan accent is slightly different from the Antiguan. In the years before Antigua and Barbuda's independence, Standard English was widely spoken in preference to Antiguan Creole.
