Update November 19, 2021
Courchevel has reopened to international tourism and the ski lifts will be open for 2021/22 ski season. Measures have been put in place for the safety of all guests.
Traveling to France
-
Fully vaccinated travelers coming from the United States (as well as minor children under 17 accompanied by a fully vaccinated parent or guardian) are able to enter France with proof of vaccination and a sworn statement they do not have symptoms of COVID-19 nor contact with someone with a confirmed case of COVID-19.
-
Accepted vaccines are Pfizer-BioNTech, Moderna, AstraZeneca, and Johnson & Johnson
-
-
Unvaccinated and not fully vaccinated are required to show a compelling reason for travel, undergo a seven-day self-isolation period upon arrival, and have various testing requirements.
-
French authorities accept the CDC card as evidence of vaccination for entry into France, but it is not accepted as a French health pass required for domestic travel within France or to enter cultural sites, museums, theatres, restaurants, bars, nightclubs, cafes, athletic facilities, medical offices and hospitals (except for emergencies), retirement homes, and some other facilities.
Local Protocols
-
Social distancing
-
Face mask mandatory in public transportation, indoor spaces and crowded areas, such as markets, lines, and stadiums.
-
Face mask is mandatory while queuing for the lifts, inside the gondolas and in places of mixing.
-
Failing to wear face covering where required can result in a 135 Euro fine (approximately $160). Repeat offenders can be fined up to 1,500 Euros (about $1,735).
Health Pass
The health pass is not a document but a way to prove you do not have Covid- 19. It applies to each individual aged 12 or more. It is not restricted to vaccination, demonstrating your health pass on entry to a venue effectively means you must show either:
-
Proof of vaccination,
-
Or proof of a negative PCR Covid test taken within the past 72 hours (48 hours for the rapid antigenic tests)
-
Or proof of having been positive with Covid 11 days to six months before entering the space
These documents can be shown in paper format, digitally, or through the phone application TousAntiCovid. Typically, there will be a QR code attached to the document that staff at the venue can scan to verify your proof. The health pass is mandatory to access public venues such as restaurants, bars, swimming pools, bowling alleys, gyms, theaters, some events, domestic flights, high speed TGV trains, etc.
In ski resorts, the health pass is not mandatory in the lifts as long as the national incidence rate remains under 200 cases per 100,000 inhabitants. From 201 cases, it will be mandatory (there were 100 cases for 100,000 inhabitants last week).
If you have been vaccinated in the EU (or in Albania, Andorra, Armenia,
Faroe Islands, Iceland, Israel, Liechtenstein, Northern Macedonia, Morocco,
Monaco, Norway, Panama, United Kingdom, San Marino, Switzerland, Turkey,
Ukraine, or the Vatican), your COVID certificate is accepted in France.
For all other countries, your certificate is not accepted. Hence, you can
either:
-
Take PCR or antigenic tests: the cost for a person without a French Social Security number is 44€ / PCR test / person and 25€ / antigenic test / person (children and adults alike)
-
Apply for a vaccine equivalency health pass in a pharmacy (more details below) for a cost of 36€
As of October 31, the French government has changed the method in which U.S. citizens and other people vaccinated outside the European Union may obtain a French Health Pass.
-
Under the new system, the health pass will be obtained from designated pharmacies for a fee of up to 36 Euros. The map of designated pharmacies is available on this website: https://www.sante.fr/how-to-obtain-a-french-health-pass
