Covid-19 Testing FAQ
Last Updated: August 3, 2022
What kind of test do I need to travel?
The type of test you need depends on the country you are traveling to. Some countries, including the U.S., England, and other European nations, require travelers to present either a rapid antigen test or a PCR test. Other countries, such as Canada, will accept PCR tests only. Please, consult the travel advisory website of the country you are traveling to for precise information.
How accurate are PCR and antigen tests?
While no test is 100% accurate and the true accuracy of tests cannot be precisely measured, we know PCR tests are the most reliable, with close to zero false-positive rates. Due to the technology used – PCR detects the virus’ genetic material whereas antigen tests detect proteins – PCR also offers the least false negatives.
Can I get tested at my villa?
Yes, you can. We have a doctor on call who will carry out the tests, either PCR or rapid antigen tests, in the comfort of your villa and deliver your results in time for your flight.
How long does it take to get the results from a PCR test?
Our on-call doctor will deliver results from PCR tests in less than 48 hours. Times in external certified clinics may vary.
How long does it take to get the results from a rapid antigen test?
Once in the lab, results from rapid antigen tests take around 45 minutes to be processed. You will receive an email or WhatsApp message with your results the same day the sample was taken.
How are the tests administered? What is the difference between PCR and antigen?
Both tests are similar in that they use swabs to get samples, which are then analyzed in the lab. The main difference between them is that PCR needs two samples, one from a throat swab and one from a nasal swab. Meanwhile, the rapid antigen test requires one nasal swab only.
How much does it cost to get tested at my villa?
The price of the in-villa PCR test is $180 USD per person. The price of the in-villa rapid antigen test is $65 USD per person.

If I detect any Covid-related symptoms, should I be tested?
Yes. If you have any symptoms (fever, persistent headache, sore throat, difficulty breathing) or suspect that you have been recently in contact with someone who has tested positive for Covid-19, you should self-isolate and get tested as soon as possible.
Can I get tested in a clinic in Cancún, Playa del Carmen, or Tulum?
