The west coast of Barbados bordering the sparkling, tranquil waters of the Caribbean Sea offers the calmest swimming on the island, and tranquil bays to the south are suitable for swimming and surfing in the gentle waves. If you love the drama of crashing waves, visit the east and north coasts, but aside from a few protected coves this area is generally not advised for swimming.

Located in the parish of St. Peter, Mullins Beach is one of the most popular beaches on the West Coast. There is a beach bar conveniently located to grab a drink or snack and easy parking just across the road.

Tranquil Gibbs Beach

The beach here is considered one of the most unpopulated on the island and is perfect for relaxing in a quiet and peaceful atmosphere under the warm Caribbean sun. The crystal clear and incredibly calm waters are great for a soothing and relaxing swim. Gibbs Beach is also excellent for watersports.

Sunsets at Ju Ju’s Beach Bar

Ju Ju’s Beach on the west coast is ideal for swimming, and there is a chance that you will get to swim with the turtles near the reef close to shore. Make sure to bring along a snorkel and mask to make the most of your visit. Rent umbrellas and lounges and enjoy freshly grilled fish at Ju Ju’s beach bar. Ju Ju’s gets busy at the end of the day when everyone gathers to watch the spectacular sunset.

Beautiful Crane Beach

Crane Beach, originally a harbor, is rated by some as one of the most beautiful beaches in the entire world. Although Crane Beach is located on the southeast corner of the island, the beach is perfect for swimming because the waves are broken by a long barrier reef just offshore. Expect to find shallow, calm waters in the cove to the left, and waves ideal for body surfing elsewhere.

Snorkeling at Batts Rock Beach

Batts Rock Beach on the west coast runs south to Paradise Beach and Brighton Beach. Snorkeling is great here, with a coral reef teeming with sea life and calm water for easy swimming. There is onsite parking, and beachgoers will find a public facility with showers. There is also a lifeguard station and a children’s playground here, making ideal for family fun.
