Swim with the Dolphins

As a visitor to the British Virgin Islands you will have an amazing opportunity for a unique experience swimming with the dolphins in the Caribbean Sea. The Dolphin Discovery Center near Prospect Reef Port in Tortola is surrounded by mountain greenery and crystal clear waters. You will get up close and personal with bottlenose dolphins, known for their intelligence, sociability and playfulness. Watch in wonder as they perform for you.

Explore a Famous Shipwreck

The British Virgin Islands have claimed an incredible number of ships over the years, making the island chain a diver’s paradise. The RMS Rhone, a Royal Mail Steamer, carried passengers as well as mail and general cargo. In 1867, the ship was lying at anchor off nearby Peter Island when the sky grew black and the captain ordered the ship full speed ahead to ride out the storm. Unfortunately, the winds forced the ship onto the rocks of Tortola. The shipwreck of the RMS Rhone is now a favored dive spot for scuba divers.

Dine by Candlelight

Two Bon Appetit columnists are the proprietors of The Sugar Mill on Tortola, located in the hotel of the same name. Enjoy glorious sunsets and views of nearby Jost Van Dyke island at the alfresco gazebo terrace bar while sipping a rum punch before dinner. The restaurant serves world-class cuisine in a centuries old restoration of a stone sugar mill surrounded by tropical gardens. The menu changes daily, and choices may include salmon in leek, poached lobster salad Nicoise and roasted duck. A Caribbean Beach Breakfast and lunch are also served.

Wonder at a Breathtaking Landscape

The Baths in Virgin Gorda is on the list of must-see activities when visiting the British Virgin Islands. Marvel at massive boulders formed long ago by volcanic eruptions scattered in an amazing landscape of arches, rock pools, grottos and tunnels. Snorkelers will love exploring the rocks in the crystal clear waters along winding trails and clandestine beaches.

Escape to a Secluded Beach

The beaches in the British Virgin Islands are ideal if you are looking for natural beauty, warm, crystalline water and powdery white sand beaches. Smuggler’s Cove on the western end of Tortola is hard to reach by land or sea, and that makes this sheltered secret cove the secluded tropical beach of your dreams. Enjoy snorkeling along the coral reef just 30 yards offshore with the possibility of turtle sightings. For lunch or a cooling drink, Smuggler’s Cove beach bar is nestled among the sea grapes. Smuggler’s Cove beach is accessible via a twisting dirt road by rental car, and by hiking from Long Bay.

Benefit from a Spa Day

Biras Creek Spa on Virgin Gorda is the ideal spot for a relaxing day melting away stress with an array of luxurious spa treatments. Enter a relaxing world of massages, facials, wraps and more using locally grown Neem and Aloe leaves along with the acclaimed essential oils and beauty products of Decleor.
