Dining on some of the freshest seafood you may ever encounter (including your own catch prepared for you in your villa or in one of the many restaurants that will grill it up for you!), surfing along pristine beaches, hiking in the mountains, touring deserts to the north, shopping in the little artisan towns, and diving or snorkeling in the Sea of Cortez…that is but a small list of the things to do in and around Cabo.
San Jose del Cabo can also be described as a destination. It is a classic "Old Town" and full of old-fashioned Mexican charm and modern luxury. Tour the 300-year-old Church of San Lucas, enjoy a meal or snack at a café in the Plaza Mijares, definitely eat a fresh seafood meal at one of the restaurants, and plan on doing your souvenir shopping here as this area is full of boutiques, artisan shops, and wonderful places to purchase truly unique goods.
The beaches of San Joes del Cabo are a bit quieter and include Playa Palmilla and Santa Maria, both noted for the wonderful snorkeling. The golf here is also noted as some of the finest in the region, and the Palmilla Golf Club is a must play spot for the golf aficionado.
It would be unfair to rule out Cabo San Lucas as a place with charm or appeal. After all, it too has a historic church and an equally appealing little square. The Iglesia de San Lucas was constructed in the 1730s and surrounded by the Calle Cabo San Lucas. This lovely square also has its own good array of restaurants and some truly charming boutiques. There is a picturesque gazebo that is a favorite of visitors.
However, Cabo San Lucas is noted as major spot for dancing, dining and socializing. Some of the most popular spots include the Cabo Wabo complex. This is where you can take in big name bands and performers, find a lot of different clubs and bars and enjoy the party atmosphere that is part of the Cabo experience. El Squid Roe is another happening place, and where you will see enormous conga lines, bars serving all kinds of fun and exotic drinks, and fantastic nightlife.
In general, the downtown area of Cabo San Lucas will offer you a dizzying array of activities that include dining, socializing, shopping, and beach going, and the downtown is actually just a short distance from the popular and picturesque Playa Solmar. Of course, with the mention of a beach, it is time to look at the very best beaches of Cabo.
