Set within the St. Vincent and Grenadines island chain, Mustique is an utterly unique and rare find. Discerning travelers have kept it their own little secret for decades, and once you learn about this unusual Caribbean spot, you will want to experience it for yourself. Comprised of 2.2 square miles, it is an entirely private island owned by the homeowners who are all shareholders in the Mustique Company.
Dedicated to upholding the natural beauty and pristine environment of their island, they also have taken great pains to make it a place where travelers can enjoy private luxury villas designed and decorated by some of the world's best professionals, access a long list of world-class amenities and activities, and even enjoy public spaces for dining and recreation.
While almost any visitor to the island may want to simply lounge on their private villa terrace or sit back at the beach, there is a great deal more to see and do. The staff is happy to encourage hours of beachcombing or trail hiking and can arrange for a fully stocked hamper to enable guests to spend a full day outdoors, enjoying a picnic for a group of any size. One of the chefs, or a private villa chef, will be happy to make the preparations!
However, for the more active or those eager to get the blood pumping, there are many world-class activities on the island. These include:
Water sports such as scuba diving, kite surfing, sailing, wind surfing, paddle boarding, boogie boarding, kayaking and fishing. The island has a private, glass-bottomed boat for those who would prefer to do their explorations above the waves, and any of the gear and instruction required is readily available. Novices can access ADI instructors and dive masters to learn how to use the gear and remain safe at all times, and all in some of the clearest and most beautiful waters imaginable.
The same can be said of sailing and boating, and Mustique keeps a good array of larger boats on hand for private charters by those who are familiar with the intricacies of sailing. Daytrips aboard the island's boats are another option, including tours of uninhabited islands nearby.
Mustique also offers options for tennis (including lessons), with resident coaches. Visitors can purchase or rent their equipment on the island. Horse and pony excursions along the shore or in the hills at the center of the island are always available, private lessons can be booked for those unfamiliar with riding, and children may be enrolled in special three day educational camps to teach them how to care for horses properly.
Naturally, as a destination meant for luxurious vacationing, Mustique has an array of spa services. In fact, there are four different treatment rooms, a beauty salon, a relaxation center, and a menu of holistic and beauty treatment options. Fitness enthusiasts will appreciate the upscale activities in our wellness center which includes a yoga studio, Pilates classes, and variety of fitness courses. The island is also amply supplied with trails for hiking, running, cycling and walking.
For golf fans, the nearby island of Canouan provides access to an award-winning course, and for families with children, there is a Social Director who plans regular activities throughout the day and into the evening. There are even outdoor movie screenings! Private child care is also available.
There is no limit to what you can do on Mustique, but like many, you may find that your favorite activities include visiting the different beaches to catch a sunset, sunrise, or midday swim.
Of course, dining is also a favorite activity and Mustique has a tremendous range of outdoor barbecues, bars, and fine dining options. It is important to visit each of the dining establishments on the island, since most have become famous for everything from cocktails to scenery!
