Embark on a journey into the heart of Indonesian artistry with a hands-on batik-making experience, guided by a skilled Solo-born artisan — from a region celebrated as one of batik’s birthplaces. Rooted in royal heritage, Solo’s batik is renowned for its intricate motifs and timeless symbolism.
You’ll begin by selecting a traditional motif, each one explained so you understand its cultural meaning, then draw the design that resonates most with you using the batik tulis technique. With a canting tool, you’ll apply hot wax to the fabric before hand-brushing vibrant colors over your design. Each guest creates a unique piece on a 50x50 cm fabric canvas or a cotton tote bag.
The artisan will then complete the color-fixing process in her studio, ensuring durability. Your finished piece will be delivered to your villa or hotel within 24 hours, a meaningful and lasting keepsake.
Your day concludes with a traditional Balinese lunch served on banana leaves, a warm expression of hospitality and togetherness.
This tour includes: Private, round-trip air-conditioned transportation with an English-speaking driver, an English-speaking guide on site, mineral water, snacks/fruits in the car, all entrance fees, parking, donations, traditional lunch in Balinese family home. Also includes all batik painting materials, each guest creates their own batik (50x50 cm) or tote bag to take home, with finished pieces delivered to your accommodation in Ubud within 24 hours (the host will wash, sew and iron it to set the colors for long-lasting results).

Important Note: A catalog will be provided after booking so the motif can be chosen in advance and materials can be prepared before the activity. After the batik session, the fabric needs time to complete the traditional process, and the finished batik will be delivered to your accommodation within 24 hours - free of charge within Ubud, Sanur, Canggu, and Kerobokan; Delivery outside these areas is available on request at an additional cost.

Depending on factors such as destination specifics, traffic conditions, the Balinese calendar, customer requests, and weather, the partner may adjust the day’s itinerary, subject to the customers’ agreement and with prior notice whenever possible.
Due to the partner’s high training standards and the uniqueness of the locations, only the partner’s guides and drivers are permitted. Third-party guides and drivers are not allowed.
Fresh drinking water is provided during the tour to help reduce single-use plastic. Glasses are also available in the vehicle if guests do not have a refillable bottle.
