You call it a ski holiday and yet your upcoming visit to Meribel and Les Trois Vallees in the French Alps is also about shopping, apres-ski activities, and of course the food. Dining in Meribel is an essential part of any visit as the area is packed with some of the finest restaurants in the entire region. Home to Michelin star awarded eateries, it is also a wonderfully, family-friendly locale with perfect spots to stop for hot chocolate and baked goods steps from the pistes.

Whether you intend to dine strictly in the resort town or on the mountain, we suggest the following options:

Adray Telebar

A hot spot for a bite of flawlessly made cake and a sinfully delicious hot chocolate. Affordably priced, it is the spot for that wedge of cake and oversized mug of chocolate (or glass of wine) to enjoy by the fire. It also serves great veal escalope on its famous sun terrace.

La Fruitiere

La Fruitiere takes us to the other end of the spectrum, and is one of the most famous and exclusive in the region. At the mid-station of the La Saulire gondola, it is a uniquely decorated space that serves iconic Savoyard dishes prepared with a contemporary twist. Locally grown organic produce adds a touch of freshness and appeal to any dish.

La Bouitte

La Bouitte is noted as one of the best restaurants in the world, and the owner of three Michelin stars. It is a truly fine food establishment that has been described as a “gastronomic opera” by some due to its lavish ingredients and presentation. Their foie gras de canard en escalope and tasting menus are legendary. Enjoy three to eight “surprises” during your visit.

Helios

Helios is set in the heart of Meribel and has one of the coziest environments imaginable. An open fire that is a popular gathering spot at sunset, world famous desserts, and a menu that emphasizes the regional Savoyard fare. Part of the Hotel, booking is a must.

Chez Kiki

Chez Kiki is another popular spot, and is famous for their preparation of regional meat-based dishes. The restaurant has existed for more than fifty years, and is the destination for those who want a flawlessly cooked steak. Though famous for its amazing foods, it is also one of the most family-friendly spots and even provides a children’s menu.

The Restaurants of Altiport Hotel

Altiport Hotel offers three different restaurants in one spot. The first, and most popular is Le Zinc. Noted for its amazing views that look out over Lapin Pistes, it is a gourmet spot that many say is well deserving of a Michelin star (though it has yet to be recognized with such an honor). It offers modern French cuisine with an emphasis on organic local produce. The interiors are rich and welcoming, and the fire is always blazing. There is also the L’Escale offering evening meals and fine dining, and the L’Envol which is a high-end bar that provides you with a wonderfully stylish space to enjoy a low-key meal alongside a flawless glass of wine or a cocktail.

Aux Petits Oignons

Aux Petits Oignons is tucked into the center of Meribel and offers delicious lunches and dinners, each with three courses. It is a very popular apres destination for families and is one of the few restaurants with well-prepared vegetarian meals available at all times.

Pizzeria du Mottaret

Pizzeria du Mottaret is the very finest spot for pizza on the mountain and the perfect place for a family lunch or dinner after some hours on the slopes.

There are also many fine shops and bakeries in Meribel, and you will definitely want to stop at one of the local fromageries to pick up some of the local specialties.
